Why we chose Brain Tumour Research as our charity of the year

Gobeyond Partners has been supporting Brain Tumour Research, raising thousands of pounds to help find a cure for the disease. Here’s why the organisation decided to support our cause.

In 2022, Gobeyond Partners was delighted to join Brain Tumour Research as one of their charity partners. This partnership holds particular personal significance here at Gobeyond Partners, with the wife of one of our colleagues passing away earlier in the year following a long and incredibly courageous battle with the illness.

The aim was to raise £13,700 (enough to sponsor the equivalent of five days of research at one of the charity’s Centres of Excellence) to help fund the fight against brain tumours. A number of fundraising events were organised which included: 10,000 Steps a Day in February where more 7.4 million steps were covered; Wear a Hat Day; a raffle at the company dinner; fundraising at the annual company golf day; the Isle of Wight Randonnée (our cyclist, Richard Davies did the Ultra and went round twice!) and the Walk of Hope; a company poker night; and money raised through the autumn rugby internationals. With the invaluable support from Mel, the Community Development Manager and Deb, the Community Fundraiser for Oxfordshire, we have been able to ensure that nearly the whole team here at Gobeyond have been able to get involved in fundraising and raising awareness for Brain Tumour Research.

As a business, this relationship has raised awareness of the challenges of faced by those suffering from brain tumours, and the need to fund one of the most under-funded areas of cancer research. In particular, with the motivation to support one of our colleague’s family, there has been massive support across the whole of Gobeyond Partners – both in terms of participation in events and amazing generosity.

As a result, we are delighted to be able to announce that we have exceeded our target of £13,700, raising a total of over £14,300 to date. However, we are not finished yet – we are pushing to raise above £15,000 – and possibly to reach £16,440 (which would be the equivalent of sponsoring six days of research) before this first year of fundraising is completed in January. As a result, Gobeyond Partners will have five engraved tiles placed on the Wall of Hope at a Centre of Excellence, where dedicated scientists continue their research to find a cure for brain tumours.

It has been a privilege and an honour to partner with Brain Tumour Research and join the fight to find a cure for the cancer that kills more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer.
