New officers elected to Brain Tumour APPG

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Brain Tumours (APPGBT) held its Annual General Meeting at Westminster yesterday.

It was an important but largely procedural affair to confirm the name and purpose of the group, to sign off funding, income and expenditure, and generally make sure the group complies with the standards and regulations expected of all APPGs.

Brain Tumour Research provides the secretariat for the group and we were delighted that Derek Thomas MP was elected again as our Chair. Although Lee Rowley had to step down from his role as officer of the APPGBT, due to him taking a ministerial position, the APPGBT was strengthened by adding new officers, Lord Polak and Jane Hunt MP, to its existing roster of supportive Parliamentarians.

Derek (pictured in his office at Westminster wearing our limited edition pin badge for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee) said: "I am honoured to continue in my position as Chair of this group and would like to give a huge vote of thanks to the Parliamentarians who are supportive of the APPGBT. We are motivated by the stories we hear from the brain tumour community and I am really positive about the impact our current inquiry into the ‘Pathway to a Cure’ is going to have.

"Change can’t come soon enough in terms of new options and better outcomes for brain tumour patients and it is the aim of all of us involved in the APPGBT to make a difference. It is a cause we all care very deeply about.”
