A street in Reading is to be named after a 13-year-old boy who died of an aggressive high-grade brain tumour that comes with a devastatingly short prognosis of just 12 to 18 months.
George Fox, from Bedfordshire, was diagnosed with a glioblastoma (GBM) in April 2021 after suffering headaches and vomiting. Despite surgeries, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and his family and friends crowdfunding for private treatment abroad, George passed away in April 2022.
Now, the Vistry Group is paying tribute to the brave schoolboy known as ‘Gorgeous George’ by naming a street in his memory. Fox Crescent will be incorporated within the housebuilders’ Bovis Homes location at Emmer Green Drive in Reading.
The company became aware of George’s brave fight with cancer after a subcontractor, Helen Cullip from Bracknell Glass, read his story online and brought it to their attention.
George’s mum Louise said: “It was such a lovely surprise to find out that there is to be a street named after our little boy. I would like to thank Helen for the idea and Vistry for making it happen.
“George was a kind, loving soul, who would think having a street named after him was really funny and I know it would bring a smile to his face. It was great to visit Emmer Green Drive, to meet the Vistry team and to see exactly where Fox Crescent will be.”

“We are more than happy to be able to do our bit to ensure that the name of George Fox lives on and that his family know that there is a street in Reading that honours his incredible bravery by carrying his name.”
