Today, on the first anniversary of the death of Andi Peel, we are thinking especially about his family who have set up a new Fundraising Group under our umbrella known as Andi’s Army.
Andi was a really fit man, always going to the gym or playing basketball. In August 2019 he started getting headaches, but his diagnosis with a glioblastoma (GBM) didn’t come until January 2020. Andi underwent the standard treatment of surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy which affected his eyesight, rendering him eventually totally blind. However, he never lost his sense of humour, even after a massive seizure in July 2021 when he became bedbound. Andi died, aged 30, after a three-year battle.
Mum Linda (pictured above with Andi) said: “He took everything in his stride; from the operation to all of the treatment he had, he never moaned, and he never lost his sense of humour. He was always more worried about me and how I was doing then he was about himself. He was so amazing, brave and inspiring.”
After his diagnosis, Andi started supporting Brain Tumour Research. We are grateful to his family for setting up Andi’s Army to keep his memory alive and continue his legacy to bring hope to families in the future similarly affected.
