We are very sad to be sharing the news that Zara Taylor, who set up the Fundraising Group Zara’s Appeal for a Cure, died on Saturday 21st October, aged 33.
Zara was 30 when she was diagnosed with a brain tumour, after suffering a couple of seizures, which turned out to be a glioblastoma (GBM). She underwent surgery and then radiotherapy and chemotherapy, losing her lovely long, thick hair, and also accessed private repurposed drug treatment from the Care Oncology Clinic (COC) in London’s Harley Street.
Knowing that her prognosis was poor and shocked that research into finding a cure for brain tumours was so woefully underfunded, Zara signed up to a number of Brain Tumour Research fundraising campaigns, including Walk of Hope, 10,000 Steps a Day in February and Jog 26 Miles in May – which she walked as she was too poorly to run. She was also very proud that her dad completed Cycle 274 Miles in August, as well as abseiling down the Trafford Centre. Zara’s efforts, along with those of family and friends, mean that her Fundraising Group has raised more than £19,000 – an incredible total which is enough to sponsor the equivalent of seven days of research.
It is especially poignant that Zara’s approach to the mayor of Blackpool resulted in both the Blackpool Tower and Lytham’s Windmill being lit up in pink on Wear A Hat Day 2023 to honour her brain tumour fight. We hope that this will happen again in 2024, this time in Zara’s memory.
