Neurosciences and brain tumour research: joining forces for greater impact

The deadline is now for all outstanding applications to attend an exciting new workshop hosted by the Medical Research Council, the Brain Tumour Research charity and the British Neuroscience Association.

All applications must be received by 5pm on Tuesday 18th September 2018.

The workshop will take place on Tuesday 23rd October 2018 in London and is free to researchers with expertise in either neurosciences or brain tumours who are considering projects that might benefit from multidisciplinary expertise.

The format of the day has been designed to enable lively discussion amongst panellists and participants, and enable the foundations of multi-disciplinary collaborations between researchers in the neuroscience and brain tumour communities.

The workshop is a direct result of the parliamentary debate on the funding of brain tumour research in the UK that was sparked by the e-petition begun by the Realf family in 2015, and with your help attracted over 120,000 signatures.

This fantastic display of support by everyone touched by this devastating disease led to the founding of a Task and Finish Working Group, chaired by Chris Whitty (Department of Health and Social Care Chief Scientific Advisor). Our Chief Executive Sue Farrington Smith MBE and Nathan Richardson, Head of Molecular and Cellular Medicine at the Medical Research Council, were active members of this Group.

report by the Group was published in February 2018, which identified significant opportunities for the brain tumour and neuroscience communities to work in partnership, and now this opportunity has arrived.
