Good luck to our Brighton Half Marathon runners

2 min read

Thousands of people will hit the coastal running route today (Sunday 25th February) for the Brighton Half Marathon, including several of our wonderful supporters.

Amongst those taking on the 13.1-mile challenge to raise awareness for Brain Tumour Research are James Sicilia, Jemma Maddock and Jamie Charlotte.

James is running in memory of his beloved grandmother, Brenda Thorne, who died aged 71 in November 2015, six years after being diagnosed with a low-grade meningioma.

The 28-year-old from West Sussex said: “I’d give anything to spend more time with my grandmother. I’m raising money to support research into this disease, to try to give others as much time as possible with their loved ones.”

Jemma, 38, from Kent, will be running alongside friends and family as part of ‘Juju’s Army’. Her mother, Julie Curran – nicknamed Juju – is undergoing treatment for a glioblastoma (GBM) after being diagnosed last July.

“I’m a fixer and I can’t fix what’s happening to Mum, so the half-marathon is the best thing I can do to help. It’s not going to cure her but maybe one day it’ll help cure someone else and save them from this horrible situation,” Jemma said.

Meanwhile, university student Jamie, from Bedfordshire, is running for family friend, Simon Penwright, who lost his life to a GBM three months ago, aged 52.

Twenty-year-old Jamie said: “Seeing that happen to someone close to you gives you the drive to want to do what you can to help. It’s going to be tough today but I’ll give it my best and hopefully smash it.”

We’d like to wish everyone the best of luck and thank you for continuing to help Brain Tumour Research on our journey to find a cure for all brain tumours.

Please donate what you can to help fund life-saving research.
