A Buckinghamshire pub landlord is hosting a Christmas fayre to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research, with festive stalls, carol singers, mulled wine and Santa all set to feature.
The event will take place at The White Hart in Gun Lane, Sherington, from 11am-4pm on Sunday 10th December. Entry is free of charge, thanks to funding from Sherington Parish Council, and anyone looking for last-minute gift ideas will have plenty to choose from, with around 25 stallholders exhibiting on the day.
Among them will be crocheted bags from our Community Fundraiser Emma Jolly (pictured above), whose dad Mark developed secondary brain tumours following a kidney cancer diagnosis and passed away in June 2020. Jane Barltrop will be selling plants, having already raised around £47,000 for the charity inspired by her husband Pete and sister, Anne Dickinson, who both died at the age of 60 of a glioblastoma (GBM). Charity volunteers, Shannon Moore (pictured below) – who was diagnosed with a rare craniopharyngioma in 2005 – and her grandmother Lorraine White, will be selling Body Shop products.
As well as a variety of free refreshments including a traditional hog roast, there will be Christmas carols from The Adstock Singers, a Buckinghamshire choir that has lost two members to brain tumours, and creative and active events company Something Less Boring will be providing art and craft workshops. Plus, there will be face painting, a visit from Santa, a special raffle with prizes donated by stallholders and a Christmas tree of hope on which fayre-goers will be able to hang baubles with personalised messages in exchange for a charity donation.
Pub landlord Giles Fern’s inspiration to support Brain Tumour Research comes from two friends, Kevin Durkan who died of a brain tumour in January 2023 and Mark Booth who was diagnosed the same month. Giles said: “It is going to be a really great event. The funding we’ve managed to obtain this year has given it a nice little boost and a big warm space to use rather than being outside and weather dependant. We’ve got lots of local stallholders who will be housed within a marquee, and the pub itself will be open too. I’d encourage everyone who can to come and see what it’s about.”
