A wisecracking brain tumour patient is preparing for a comedy-free week to raise funds to help find a cure for the disease.
Kish Shenoy embraced comedy as a way of dealing with the life-changing effects of brain surgery. This December, he is doing a sponsored no jokes week to raise funds and awareness for Brain Tumour Research.
His seven days of seriousness will start on Friday 15th December – tying in with Wear A Christmas Hat Day – and Kish will be wearing a fez, the trademark hat of his favourite comedian Tommy Cooper, with a baseball cap he wore during radiotherapy on top.
Kish said: “I used jokes to cheer myself up after a very depressing four months in hospital and I’ve been telling them ever since. I get so much enjoyment out of making others laugh. But for one week I won’t be saying any jokes to my colleagues, or anyone who knows me, because I’m being sponsored not to.
“I’m going to find it really hard though. I do wonder if I’ve committed myself to too much but that’s what makes it a good challenge, because people who know me know how hard this is going to be.”
Kish was diagnosed with a brain tumour, later identified as a rare low-grade epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE), in 2008 after suffering with double vision and shaky hands. The 29-year-old has undergone radiotherapy and numerous surgeries.
