A woman, who lost her 23-year-old daughter to brain cancer, received an award for raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for Brain Tumour Research.
Yasmin Stannard, mother of Amani Liaquat, won the fundraiser award as part of The Inspirational Women Awards on Friday 26th April, three days before what would have been Amani’s 26th birthday.
Charity campaigner and patient Amani died of a glioblastoma (GBM) in February 2022.
Receiving the award, Yasmin (pictured), said: “I was humbled to be presented with this award. Truth be told, I do not feel very inspirational, particularly since I have been struggling with my grief so much recently.
“But despite this, I have tried to fundraise as much as my emotions allow, for projects Amani was passionate about.
“As always I continue to fight for increased funding, supporting Brain Tumour Research. For three years running I have brought the Luton Walk of Hope to Wardown Park, with the event last year (2023) raising in excess of £21,000 and counting.
“So, the true inspiration is every single one of you who have generously donated to the fundraisers that I share; the amazing souls who have participated in our Walk of Hope events and those who have exerted immense efforts in running marathons in Amani's memory. You are the true fundraising trojans!”
