Today we are giving A New Hope for Ethan a big welcome to our family of Fundraising Groups. And like so many, this Group has been set up in memory of a loved one lost to a brain tumour.
Ethan, whose passions revolved around sport – particularly basketball and football, was 15 and preparing for his GCSEs when he was diagnosed with a glioblastoma (GBM) after suffering with severe headaches and slurred speech.
Over the course of two years, Ethan had three operations, chemotherapy and radiotherapy and developed epilepsy as a result of treatment. Desperate to save their son, his parents Nikki and Justin searched for other options and paid privately for immunotherapy treatment in Germany helped by the generosity of friends, family and strangers. However, Ethan became too poorly to continue travelling and had to stop the treatment.
On 26th November 2021, Ethan died with the people he loved by his side. He was 17.
Nikki said: “We had hoped to find a cure within his lifetime. Now it’s important to us as parents to keep Ethan’s memory and name alive. We want to rewrite the future of brain tumour patients and stop families going through the pain of losing a loved one.”
A New Hope for Ethan is focusing on campaigning and fundraising for research to bring about better treatment options and ultimately a cure for brain tumours.
