National brain tumour research funding needs to increase to £35 million a year
Novel techniques look to overcome the blood-brain barrier

One of the challenges facing researchers when developing drugs to treat brain tumours is to identify tools to assist their entry into the brain. This is because there is a membrane between the blood vessels and nerve cells called the blood-brain barrier, which prevents foreign substances (some drugs) from entering into the brain.
A number of novel techniques are being researched to try to overcome the problem. Our Director of Research, Dr Kieran Breen, examines some of the most promising over on our blog.
