Fundraising fashionista dons 100 dresses for Fin

Apr 30, 2021, 10:25 AM by Amy Thomas

This Bank Holiday weekend, fundraisers are marking what would have been Captain Sir Tom Moore’s 101st birthday.

Inspired by the veteran’s 100 laps of his garden, Brain Tumour Research has joined the nationwide campaign to encourage everyone, of all ages and abilities, to take on their own Captain Tom 100 Challenge from today until 3rd May.

Amongst those taking part in the Captain Tom 100 Challenge is mum-of-five Claire Lee. She is donning 100 different dresses and taking photos in 100 different locations to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research. Her fashionable fundraising comes after her best friend’s son Fin Church died from a glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) in November 2015, aged 11.

In spite of a gruelling treatment regime, Fin helped raise more than £100,000 for Brain Tumour Research and Birmingham Children’s Hospital to ensure others didn’t have to suffer in the way he did.

Inspired by Fin’s determination to help others, Claire will share the 100 images in a 60-second video on her social media this weekend.

She said: “My husband Jonny always says I’ve got hundreds of dresses. It turns out I have 60, so I’ve sourced an additional 40 from charity shops and generous friends. Over the past couple of weeks, Jonny has been photographing me in weird and wonderful locations around our local area, wearing a different dress in each place. I’ve been pictured wearing a black, silky number at my son’s boxing academy, I’ve worn a ball gown on a treadmill and I’ve even got into a wedding dress for a fun photoshoot involving a bottle of my favourite tipple – prosecco! It’s been time-consuming and completely bonkers but just the kind of whacky challenge Fin would have loved.”

If you would like to donate to support Claire’s chic challenge, please visit her JustGiving page.

Good luck to everyone on a challenge this weekend and raising funds to continue Captain Tom’s legacy of hope.
