Wear A Hat Day with Flowers Children’s Story Writing Competition: terms and conditions

  • To be eligible, the child must be aged between 5 and 13 years old.
  • The story should be no longer than 500 words long.
  • The main focus of the story should revolve around hats and flowers in some way.
  • The story should also include at least one of these other themes: Art / Geography / Maths / History / Science.
  • One entry per child.
  • Entries should be sent via email to wearahatday@braintumourresearch.org or posted to the following address:

  • Entries should include the full name and age of the story writer, email and telephone contact details for the parent/s / guardian/s, the city/town/village where you live, and ideally a photo of the author.
  • Entries can also include any other images and/or illustrations you’d like to go with your stories.
  • If entries are submitted by a school or nursery, the participating school or nursery is responsible for ensuring appropriate permissions have been sought for each child, or another lawful basis under data protection legislation applies, before sharing personal data with Brain Tumour Research.
  • With any schools submission, please be sure to include the school name, school address and the Teacher's name
  • By entering this competition, entrants are confirming that the required consent has been given by each child’s parent or legal guardian, or that another lawful basis applies.
  • Closing date Sunday 26th July 2020.
  • The winner will be judged by children’s author Martyn Harvey and announced by 31st July 2019 (although Brain Tumour Research reserves the right to change this date).
  • The winning story will be read out loud in a video by Martyn Harvey by 30th August (although Brain Tumour Research reserves the right to change this date).
  • All entrants’ stories will be anonymised before passing to Martyn for review and judging purposes, but we will share the competition winner’s details with Martyn just for the purposes of being able to ‘deliver’ the prize.
  • Entry is free, no purchase is necessary.
  • There is no alternative to the prize.
  • The parent(s) / guardian(s) of the winning child will be notified using the contact information provided during their submission.
  • By entering this competition, parent(s) / guardian(s) are providing consent for Brain Tumour Research to store and share on social media any stories, images and illustrations written by their children when submitted as described in these terms and conditions. We will only share names or other personal information that could identify specific individuals if entrants specifically allow us to do so.
