FANTASTIC PEOPLE...fundraising for the cause, we couldn't do it without you!

We are truly indebted to so many people who are helping us fund the fight against brain tumours.  We are grateful
for all monies received large or small, from widow's mites to King's Ransoms!

The many different ways people are helping us to raise much needed money for brain tumour research is amazing.
Amounts received include:

  • Donations
  • In memorium donations given at funerals
  • In celebration donations given in lieu of birthday and anniversary presents
  • Selling items made, second hand items, in the home, on stalls or through car boot sales
  • Organising events
  • Getting sponsored for something
  • Funds raised by our partners - businesses choosing Brain Tumour Research as their Charity of the Year
  • Umbrella Groups - set up by those who want a fund in their own loved ones name

The Major is all about character!

Lianne Anderson & Joanne Garraway undertook the Major Series on Sunday 15th October at Bramham Park, Leeds.

They ran, climbed and waded through mud and so far have raised a fantastic £650.00

Matt and Tim to face gruelling 24 hour sailing challenge in bid to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research

Matthew Velamail, 20, of Wickersley, Rotherham, along with his friend Tim Brownell, also 20, from Dinnington, near Rotherham, are to take place in an annual 24 hour sailing event in Southport on 10 and 11 September this year in a bid to raise vital funds for Brain Tumour Research.

The sailing race, which takes place on Southport Marine Lake and is fiercly contested by sailing clubs nationwide, is the UK's number one endurance dinghy race where the challenge is to be the boat which travels the furthest over a 24 hour period.  Like the Le Mans 24 hour car race, the crews change over every one or two hours; Matt and Tim, however, will not enjoy this luxury as they plan to sail the race without a single break, no matter how windy, cold or wet the conditions.

Tragically, Matt's inspiration for this race is his own father's diagnosis in December 2009 with an incurable brain tumour.  Vetri Velamail was a GP for more than 20 years in Rotherham and is the father of two other children apart from Matt.  Despite undergoing courses of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, Vetri has now come to the end of all available treatment in this country.

The Flair Bears in Super Beach Rugby - Lignano, Italy

The team finished 4th at the Super Beach Rugby tournament in July.  Barty Hills (Danger Bear) suffered a benign meningioma in 2007 and since the operation has been focusing on finishing his studies, and playing rugby - well done to everyone who took part.

Congratulations to Nissan UK (Sunderland) on holding a successful charity match which has so far raised over £2,500 - thanks also go to their sponsors DHL.
